Øyvind Birkenes, who has been the CEO for almost ten years, will continue in his role until Tryti joins in Q2 2024
Oslo, Norway (November 9, 2023) – Airthings (AIRX), the global leader in air quality monitoring and energy-saving solutions, today announced the appointment of Emma Tryti as its next Chief Executive Officer.
Tryti has been a member of Airthings’ board since 2021. She is a widely respected leader in the Norwegian fintech industry, with experience as former Chief Commercial Officer eCommerce and Invoice at Vipps and as Chief Executive Officer of Kron, a market-leading investment app in the Norwegian consumer market acquired by Storebrand in 2022. Among other things, Tryti also has experience from private equity transactions at Danske Bank Loan Capital Markets.
“As a board member during the past two years, I have followed Airthings’ progress closely. I am very impressed by the team’s expertise and passion, as well as the company’s international growth and strong footprint amongst both consumers and businesses,” Tryti says. “I’m truly excited to take on this unique opportunity and look forward to contributing to profitable growth in the years to come.”
Geir Førre, Chair of the board, said: “Emma will join Airthings at an exciting time. Her strong leadership skills and consumer software background will help us grow the company through the next phase.”
Birkenes has led the company from a startup to become a leading brand in consumer and business markets, growing the revenue from $1.5M in 2015 to over $35M in 2022 where more than 70% of the revenue comes from North America. Airthings has established its B2C footprint sales with giants like Amazon and Home Depot and forged robust B2B alliances with large enterprises. The company became publicly traded in 2020.
“Øyvind has played an instrumental role in building Airthings into the successful company it is today. He has been an impressive leader of the company for nearly a decade. On behalf of the board, I want to sincerely thank him for his dedication, passion, hard work and job extremely well done,” added Førre.
“It’s been an amazing ride,” said Birkenes. “From the early days as a startup to become a scale-up listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange. I’m very proud to have led Airthings through these years. Now, as the company shifts gears with a revised strategy, Airthings 3.0, it’s time for me to pass the baton on and welcome Emma, who will lead Airthings through its next phase.”
